Bus Ride Really Sucked Today - 8/14/2008 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mark C
Thursday, 14 August 2008

This was a bad day for the 108.

It started this morning when the 8:30 and following bus tried to go up the hill on YBI. Keep in mind that the bus is no longer picking up at the bottom of the hill on the way out – its back on

its old route.

On the way up the bus was met by a truck with a big sign that said “Wide Load” in the

middle of the road and was labeled “Mike’s Truck”. He motioned the bus to the side at the

top of the hill and would not let us pass. After what seemed an eternity the bus back up and

went back down the hill.

As he was doing the mid-route turn I couldn’t help but notice how close we were to

 wooded cliffs. Yikes.

TREASURE ISLAND/ YERBA BUENA ISLAND

TRAFFIC UPDATE

On Friday August 8, 2008 at approximately 11:00 AM the on-ramp east of the Yerba Buena tunnel will be re-opened to all motorists travelling westbound to San Francisco.

We encourage motorists to use the on-ramp with caution and be patient with oncoming westbound traffic as Bay Bridge motorists are not used to merging traffic at this location. Local signage will be posted.

UPDATE: Bus Shelter Deployment To Be Delayed - AGAIN PDF Print E-mail
Written by Good Neighbors of TI/YBI
Thursday, 24 July 2008

UPDATED 11/3/2008:  Noticed that several of the bus shelters that are still standing, but missing plastic from the sides had their exposed windows boarded up. Yay! This is a step forward. Now we need the three bus shelters on Northpoint and Mason replaced (they are gone).  Here is a thought to keep in mind. The bus shelters were largely damaged by Island youth (as reported by many eye witnesses). Once we have bus shelters back we all need to keep an eye out for any willful distruction of them and report immediately to the police, especially when you can identify the people doing the damage.

UPDATED 10/8/2008:  If you ride the bus or drive past the stops you will realize - most are gone or dilapidated - still!  They were supposed to be installed in June but it looks like the residents are going to have to suffer a second rainy season with inadequate protection.  Why is Treasure Island being neglected on this matter? Supposedly Clear Channel has a contract to take care of all bus shelters in SF (which TI is part of) but somehow we still don't have shelter. Time for residents to go to MTA, TIDA, Chris Daly, the board of supervisors meeting and ask why? And more to the point, what are they going to do about it (waiting until the next rainy season is not an acceptable answer!)

=====================================================

We all know the bus shelters on Treasure Island have been destroyed, and some removed, over the past two years and we have been waiting for deployment of new ones. Many of us have had to stand out in the cold and rain waiting for the bus (often crowded and late) to arrive during the rainy season and what kept us going was the notice we would receive new bus shelters in July.

MTA signed a contract with Clear Channel, a communications company, manage the bus shelters in the city in return for advertising rights. Part of the deal was the replacement of the destroyed bus shelters on TI and regular monitoring of them for repair.
